The iPhone skit? I think it skated by because the Chinese workers aren't the butt of the joke, the douches complaining about the phone are.

As for the rest, liked the cold open (especially the "don't try to f**k me like Jim Lehrer" joke). Solid Usain Bolt cameo. I liked the Califnornians even though it's always the same jokes over and over. The Taken parody was blah. The Masters of Style parody was blah, but one thing about it made me optimistic. SNL has been great when it gets random (the Cowbell skit, Neil Diamond Storytellers, The Samuri). Including Sandusky in the Masters of Style was just random. Not great, but hopefully the writers see they can venture into that territory.

I thought the same thing. Seth Meyers also once mentioned on a podcast that they don't do Michelle Obama skits because she's beyond making fun of and one of the most popular women in America, when really, the answer is probably more "the last black women we had as a cast member was Ellen Cleghorne."

I agree with your review. Bolt was shockingly good in his two brief appearances - even in the cold open, he waited for the crowd to calm down before giving his line, whereas with most non-actors they try to talk over the crowd and their line is muffled as a result.

Did I miss something? Where was Bill Hader?

Thought Christina Applegate was better than most of the regulars. I'd put her into the yearly rotation with Hamm and Baldwin.

Considering her current sitcom, my guess is she'll be available pretty soon... I wouldn't put her on the same level as Baldwin, Hamm, JT and some of the other elite hosts, but she's better than most.

I agree, but I did think it was weird that they made her sing twice.

I like Christina Applegate but this epsiode sucked.

He was quite prominently featured in the "Californians" sketch.

The Californians thing sucked. The same tired joke, and it lasted what seemed like 10 minutes. Applegate was brilliant in the Fosse skit at the end, though the skit itself wasn't anything special. Rest of the episode was pretty blah.

The show should be put down like a dumb beast in pain.

That seemed like a Kristen Wiig skit and that they just subbed in Applegate.
