Murphy was on 'SNL' 1980-84. That's a good run.
I wouldn't put Chase in the top 10.

I don't think I'd put Farley in the top 10.

On the rare occasions where I've seen Darrell Hammond as himself, it's been painfully clear that there IS no himself. He has no personality outside of his characters.

    Oh, if only for ...

He was on "Loveline" a couple years back and it was a decent show, but I guess he had some pretty dark stuff happen to him as a kid, according to Drew, which they talked about during the breaks. He's since released an autobiography that has a great title: God, If You're Not Up There, I'm F*cked: Tales of Stand-Up, Saturday Night Live, and Other Mind-Altering Mayhem.

Yeah, but his stuff holds up so well. Most of the stuff from the first season is so dated, but some of the biggest exceptions are Chase's recurring characters.

Is Land Shark ever not funny?

If I had to put someone into the top 10 over Chase, it would probably be the vastly underrated Darrell Hammond.

I would argue that in the history of the show, nobody had a better season than Chase did in Season 1.

One of my favorite skits on the show in years.

Adding to this, Chase's one season also made it imperitive to have Weekend Update in every episode for what is now 37 years.

Real strong show tonight - Loved the McDonald's sketch, and the gay Maine guys on Weekend Update, and the opening sketch was pretty good too. Nothing really bad tonight either yet.
