God, I busted out at that line. I felt TERRIBLE for doing it, but I did.

    The Maine guys were awesome.

It's early, but Cecily Strong appears to be a great addition. Easy on the eyes and already has a few characters I can see being recurring -- especially the Girlfriends talk show girl.

I did like the Girlfriends, and I think Aidy Bryant showed some chops on that too.

Wow, I thought it was terrible.

Maine gay couple started great, but ultimately fell flat.

Girlfriends seemed like a rehash of the old Spade-Farley-Sandler skit.

Even by modern SNL standards, that show sucked.

Yeah, afraid I'm with Buck. Only thing that got an audible laugh from me on the night was WE (Petraeus book's rejected first title was "Just the Tip"). A couple of mildly amusing moments otherwise, but damnably pedestrian overall.

Well, I've made it to Jeremy Renner's piano not working in his opening monologue, and already this episode is terrible.

I don't know Jeremy Renner from the man on the moon ... and I thought it wasn't half-bad.

I'm not sure, but outside of Ashlee Simpson, that could be the most obvious screw up I've seen on SNL. Like, it's one thing if Charles Rocket or Norm drops an F-bomb by accident, or Jimmy Fallon breaks up in a sketch, but it's rare to see an actual technical failure like that on a live broadcast. (It seems to happen semi-regularly in dress though, at least from the Farley and Hartman DVDs.)

I really, really wanted to like Jeremy Renner's stint, but he was totally underutilized. Props to him for handling the technical snafu with aplomb (and was I the only person who didn't know he could sing and apparently plays several musical instruments?) but the show itself was a technical mess and he got upstaged by Chris freakin' Christie, fergoshsakes.

Shows like that one are exhibit number whatever when they claim SNL should be put out to pasture. When a governor's two minute appearance is the highlight, you know you are in trouble.

  12. Agreed, I felt bad for Renner, who soldiered on pretty well. Avengers skit wasn't too bad. I always wondered why Hawkeye (and Green Arrow for you DC fans) never ran out of arrows. I guess they do.

When Seth Meyers introduced Gov. Christie, I was expecting Bobby Moynihan. That blew me away. Definitely the highlight of the show.
