Still a runaway -- shocker -- for Winston. Mason still holding steady in second place. A nice mix of "who gives a shit?" battling for third.

The funny and/or sad thing is that voter put the D3 QB right above Marcus Mariota, who was the frontrunner (at least according to sites like ESPN) for so long this season.

Since there are so many Heisman voters, and since the election does not require a set percentage of votes as does the baseball Hall of Fame, I see nothing wrong with one or even a handful of voters selecting a player simply to recognize them for their accomplishments for the season at a smaller school or division.

Does that only apply when you're sure about who's going to win? "Meh. Winston's going to win going away, so I'll use my vote to play a little game of LOOK AT ME!!!!"

What if you think it's going to be a fairly close vote? What if Winston had been charged?

Got a quick Heisman question I'm hoping someone on the board can answer. Called the Heisman folks, but got the feeling they didn't have much time for a small town guy calling from 2,000 miles away during their busiest week of the year, so maybe someone in the know can help me out.

How many Heisman trophies (the actual, physical trophy) are produced each year?

I know the winner and school each get one. Then it appears there's at least a few generic ones on tour with sponsors. A local Nissan dealership is getting one to display for a few days next week, and I'm wondering how many of these things are running around.

I do, Michael. I definitely do.

It's very much like Javy Lopez getting a Hall of Fame vote.

Not the voters' job to make a statement. It's the voters' job to do the damn job they were assigned.

What if the electors think some OL from a D-II school actually is the third-best player in the nation?

Then they are dancing around the edges of reality as badly as I sometimes do. :)

AJ McCarron was named a first-team Walter Camp All-American, which means he'll be eligible for the College Football Hall of Fame.

Do people think A.J. McCarron is one of the best college football players of all time?

I don't know, but there was talk on this thread about him not being eligible. Now he is.

And I suspect as the QB of back-to-back national championship teams, he'll get a lot of consideration. He certainly wouldn't be the worst player in there.
