Who has deserved to repeat but did not?

    Tebow I thought.

Interestingly enough, the one guy who DID repeat didn't really deserve it. Archie Griffin scored 4 TDs his senior year.

Chuck Muncie, Ricky Bell and Tony Dorsett all had better years than Griffin.

Tim Tebow could have three Heisman trophies.

In 2008, Tim Tebow passed for 2,747 yards, 30 TDs, 4 INTs, and rushed for 673 yards and 12 TDs.

Winner Sam Bradford passed for 4,721 yards, 50 TDs, 8 INTs, and rushed for 5 TDs. His team lost to Tebow's team in the BCS national title game.

Second-place finisher Colt McCoy passed for 3,859 yards, 34 TDs, 8 INTs, and rushed for 561 yards and 11 TDs.

Tebow had the most first-place votes in the Heisman balloting with 309.

Tebow (43 first-place votes) finished fifth in 2009, behind Mark Ingram (227 first-place votes), Toby Gerhart (222), Colt McCoy (203), and Ndamukong Suh (161).

Tebow passed for 2,895 yards in 2009, 21 TDs, 5 INTs, and rushed for 910 yards and 14 TDs.

God you have an irrational hate for Tebow, Dick.

He was a very viable candidate in 2008, less so in 2009, and the response to your question was perfectly accurate.

The stats aren't very meaningful considering the systems and leagues he played in vs. Bradford and McCoy.

I never voted for Tim Tebow for first.

I think my votes those years were:

    '07: McFadden
    '08: Bradford
    '09: Gerhart

He was certainly a viable candidate in both years - in fact, I think he probably finished way too low in '09, although I'm not sure how much his Sugar Bowl numbers padded those final stats. I'd have to look.

But I'd hardly attribute his third- and fifth-place finishes to "idiot voters." The results seem perfectly reasonable. He finished third to two equally deserving candidates, including the quarterback for the No. 1-ranked team in the country at the time who went on to be the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft.

Yeah neither pick was bad, but I think it is an example of anti-incumbent bias too.

Kind of, but I think what really happened/happens is that instead of comparing the incumbent against the field, the incumbent gets compared to his own numbers during his Heisman season.
