For the first time in history, a woman completed the Barkley. Englishwoman Jasmin Paris, a veterinarian and mother of two, finished with 99 seconds to spare. It’s also the closest any successful entrant has ever come to the 60 hour deadline.

The Barkley is my favorite endurance event. Laz has already got to be redoing the course to make it impossible next year.

Friday afternoon I was hitting X like an addict feeding a slot machine at McCarron hoping for the payoff before boarding. Seeing that Paris finished with about 99 seconds was fun.

Harvey Lewis of Cincinnati won the loop-course last-man-standing Big's Backyard last October with 450 miles in 108 hours. He didn't last through the second lap of the Barkley. Trails are different.
