Sadly, due to another message board the song currently in my head is "Mmm mmm mmm mmm." :(

Once there was this kid who
Got into an accident and couldn't come to school
But when he finally came back
His hair had turned from black into bright white
He said that it was from when
The cars had smashed so hard

    Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm
    Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm

Once there was this girl who
Wouldn't go and change with the girls in the change room
But when they finally made her
They saw birthmarks all over her body
    She couldn't quite explain it
    They'd always just been there

    Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm
    Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm

But both girl and boy were glad
'Cause one kid had it worse than that

'Cause then there was this boy whose
Parents made him come directly home right after school
And when they went to their church
They shook and lurched all over the church floor
    He couldn't quite explain it
    They'd always just gone there

    Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm
    Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm

    Ahh Ahh Ahh Ahh
    Ahh Ahh Ahh Ahh

    Ahh Ahh Ahh Ahh
    Ahh Ahh Ahh Ahh

The "rap cat" song from the Checkers commercials. "Meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow, meow."

An obscure song by an obscure band, "If I Had A Gun," by The Atomic Bitchwax:

Here's a few I've mentally chewed on this week ...

"Heartbeat" - Don Johnson (don't ask)
"Blue Suede Shoes" - Elvis (don't fuck with the King)
"Main Titles" from Superman Returns - John Williams (don't beat me up and steal my lunch money, I only saw it four times)

And since this digressed into a Genesis discussion earlier ...

I always preferred the pop arrangement Phil did of "Behind the Lines" from the Genesis Duke album. The horns and upbeat tempo do so much for it.

Although it's more prog than rock, ... And Then There Were Three ... is a decent Genesis album. Though my favorite is probably Abacab. No Reply at All is a great track. I still play Whodunit? in my truck and get weird looks.

And check out some of the Stiltskin stuff if you like Ray Wilson. Also his solo stuff. Pretty decent rock music there.

  5. this is the band that gave us Musical Box, Supper's Ready, Cinema Show, Battle of Epping Forest, Firth of Fifth and The Knife and now No Reply at All is a "great track?"

    wow

The other night, I watched BYH Classic and came across Whitney Houston's "You Give Good Love." I called the fiancee in the other room to marvel at this once-lost pre-crack Whitney video.

Fast forward to last night. For some reason, that song popped in my head while laying out pages. Bad experience.

I LOVE "You Give Good Love." Second to "Saving All My Love For You" among early Whitney hits.

Hey, at least he didn't say "Invisible Touch" (though "Whodunnit?" was something I wish Genesis would take back ... tell me you did that to build up to "Man On The Corner" and "Like It Or Not").

PC's strength was arranging stuff with horns. He did a nice rework of "Behind the Lines," but I'll take the Genesis version because that has Tony's chords. Additionally, "Duchess" is next on the "Duke" album.

"And Then There Were Three" is very good. "Down and Out" is a nice start, while "Burning Rope" and "The Lady Lies" were underrated. For those seeking something more radio-friendly, I don't understand why "Many Too Many" never got a fair shake. It's better than "Follow You, Follow Me."

  10. I keep finding myself singing the chorus of "Swing" by Trace Adkins, which is odd because I normally don't like country music. Why oh why did I have to flip to GAC for a minute while the baseball game was at a commerical?

  11. i think Phil's strength was as a drummer. and those first few tours, he could sing the hell of those old Gabriel songs. i'd be shocked if he actually had anything to do with any of those horn arrangements

yeah, it's not a bad record & Burning Rope was kind of the last great Banks track. the Rutherford tracks on ATTW3 bring it down a little for me, but yeah, Many too Many and Down & Out are OK

Yeah, it was a great track for their pop years. I usually don't try to compare their prog with their pop. It's two entirely different animals to me. Now, had the conversation been more in line with the early 70s stuff and not the early 80s, I would agree with you.
