Running Up That Hill had a similar bump thanks to Stranger Things

I thought “Night Moves” was a No. 1 hit … I’ll have to check.

EDIT: It hit No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1976, but was Seger’s first big hit since “Rambling Gambling Man” in the late 1960s.

Absolutely correct. I still hear it in commercials now. And just how you worded it would make a fine thread hed for the next music thread. Better jump on it now cuz I might steal it!

Bob Seger interthread jack! :D "Like A Rock" has to be up there. I only vaguely recall it as the title track and second single off his 1986 album ("American Storm" was a great song, albeit one that's a relic of the time) and it took until he put it on his first Greatest Hits collection for me to remember anything other than the chorus. It's sort of too bad b/c it's right up there in his wistful canon and has a terrific guitar solo.

Like A Rock was on Chevy truck commercials for years.

It’s really, really hard to actually get to No. 1. It’s one thing to have a hit. To have a No. 1 hit is essentially luck and timing.

It also was used for a montage for Keith Hernandez and Gary Carter on the ‘86 Mets championship video, which was my first exposure to the song.

As a young teen, I thought it was kinda boring. I preferred Duran Duran’s “Wild Boys” montage for Lenny Dykstra and Wally Backman.

My wife wore that tape out--as a Yankees fan!--and I knew I'd marry her when I called her for the first time and her answering machine music was "Wild Boys."

That said, as great as the "Wild Boys" montage was, the "You Belong To The City" montage was the best thing on that tape.

Whenever I hear “You Belong To The City”, I always think about that tape.

It was one of the first things we, er, copied, when we first got a VCR, and that tape got worn out.

“You, mean, I can watch the same cool thing over and over again? And I can rewind and watch the best parts again?”

And I just found the entire tape on YouTube!

There's an increasingly likely chance the cost of that great video was the Mets never winning again. "Fine, you can have this iconic video celebrating your championship, but it's the last one."
