Agreed. When Pavarotti sang it at the opening ceremony at last year's Winter Olympics, it was a serious chill-up-the-spine moment.

"Adagio for Strings" also fits the bill. (It was used in "Platoon".)

Agree 1000% on "You're Missing" not so much so on "Paradise" (one of my least favorites off 'The Rising')

"Chasing Cars" by Snow Patrol. I just threw my head phones on and that's what was on. Kind of a kick in the balls.

"Is Heaven Good Enough For You," Allison Moorer:

He claimed you feel no more sorrow
Since you're free from all life's fears
But can the blessed on God's mountain
Love you more than I down here

I was raised not to question
    Promises the Bible makes
    But how could the Almighty
    Make such a terrible mistake

Moorer's parents died when she was in her teens. He killed her mother and then turned the gun on himself.

OK, Folds fans. We can all enjoy "The Luckiest" until we go to a Folds concert and end up being the only single guy in the room - a.k.a. the one who isn't making out/cuddling with someone during the God-damned song. Then it just pisses you off.

    But I digress.

    - Stardust.
    - On Eagles Wings.

    - 'Split Screen Sadness' by John Mayer, for a different reason than the intended meaning of the song. I live a long, long way from my hometown, and I'm still young enough that Mom makes me call at every single stop I make when I drive home. Gotta love the woman. She just worries.

Take the lyrics that lead into the refrain:

Maybe I will sleep inside my clothing
Wait on the porch 'til you come back home all right

Heard that on a drive home once and just lost it sobbing.

    - 'In My Life' - The Beatles
    - It's not for the song, but...the 'Alfie' track on the John Denver and the Muppets album "A Christmas Together." Gets me every time.
    - 'Le Chanson de Soldat' - Lucky Boys Confusion

Samuel Barber, the composer of "Adagio for Strings", actually set it 3 times. There's the orchestral version, a string quintet (I think) and a beautiful setting of "Agnus Dei" for choir.

Redemption Song -- Bob Marley -- Found this good live version.

Holding Things Together -- Merle Haggard (Dwight Yoakum does it well, too)
    I Ain't That Lonely Yet -- Yoakum
Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground -- Willie Nelson
Slave To Love -- Bryan Ferry
Come Back To Me -- Big Country
You're Gonna Miss Me -- 13th Floor Elevators
Love Will Tear Us Apart Again -- Joy Division
A Pair Of Brown Eyes -- The Pogues
This Old Porch -- Lyle Lovett version, though the Robert Earl Keen original is phenomenal too.
Nobody Knows Me -- Lyle Lovett

    Ah hell, I'll quit now.
