It's only been in the last few years that some cities have told teams to put up the money themselves or shut up. It happened in New England with Bob Kraft, and in San Francisco with MacGowan and Pac Bell (or whatever it's called today).'

For years, the Yanks, Mets, and Jets all wanted NYC to build them new stadiums. Giuliani nearly did for the baseball teams, until 9/11 hit, when it dawned on some people that maybe the tax dollars might better be spent on security instead of ballparks. Bloomberg nearly got the Jets a sweetheart deal, until he got caught as well.

I agree that it's ridiculous for cities to keep ponying up money for stadiums, especially when some of the parks are still very usable, like the Metrodome. What's going to happen in another 10 years, when teams get tired of their new parks?

It's a 4-headed race between Memphis, New Orleans, Charlotte and Milwaukee. All of which, of course, ALREADY play in arenas funded by taxpayers (Charlotte and Memphis virtually brand-new).

In fact, if Seattle bends over for the $300M Key Arena rebuild/renovation demanded (yes, that's the correct word) by the NBA in order to bring in the Grizzlies, that will bring the sum total of arenas built at the pleasure of this franchise to some $700,000,000 ($200M in Vancouver, $200M in Memphis and $300M in Seattle).

If charlotte loses another team they should never, ever, ever get another team. I am still trying to figure out how they got the second team

The only team Seattle could take and not feel guilty about it would be the Bucks. Payback for Milwaukee stealing the Pilots/Brewers.

I hate to admit it, but I'm kind of in Lester Bangs' mindset. I loved the Bucks just like the Brewers and Packers at one time, but the NBA luster is off for me. It doesn't help that the Bucks have grabbed with two hands and lockjawed their mouths around a massive dong of suck since the early 90s.

I'd hate to see Milwaukee lose the Bucks, because they have a great history there and the region used to live and die with them, but those days are gone. I'd immolate myself if the Brewers or Packers moved, but I'd only be mildly saddened by a Bucks move.

    Fuck the NBA.

The Bucks have nothing to offer, Richard jefferson and Charlie Villanueva, no way. I want the Grizzlies, Conley, Artuhur, Mayo, they have some talent there.

With Lawrence so close and Columbia only two-plus hours away, the NHL would be a much better fit for Kansas City, especially with the promise of a rivalry with St. Louis, not to mention Chicago, Dallas, Minnesota and Colorado not too, too far from the area. KU, K-State and Mizzou fans have basketball already, the NHL would offer something different.

Plus, let's be honest, they beat Memphis' pro team for the national title.
