You're talking about Tony throwing out the mug? It might have been out of character, but it was obvious to me why Chase filmed the scene that way -- another of Tony's ducks has flown away.

Back to the first part, though -- do you really think Tony was showing mercy on Chris by killing him?

You didn't think Chris was obviously dying?

Is it odd that Chris was suddenly back on T's shoulder for the NYC meet?

  4. it was a mercy kill, just like tony blundetto. it was best for christopher and tony.

what tony finally gets, in my opinion, is that "the life" makes it impossible for anyone in it to love anybody properly. that's pretty much been the theme of the show since the beginning. chase is really hammering that point home in the final three or four episodes. this thing of theirs that is supposed to be about family actually destroys families in the ugliest fashion. chase has wanted to un-Godfather the mob and show it for what it really is. he's done it.

  5. Couldn't have said it better. That's exactly what I thought about the I get it part. I definitely wouldn't be surprised to see Tony opt for Kevin Finnerty's life at the end of this.

Maybe. But why did he begin to call 911 and then decide not to? Why, after the doctors said Chris could have survived his injuries if he hadn't suffocated, did Tony still feel "relieved" he was dead? Why did he use the word "murder" in his dream with Melfi? And why would a guy who survived a gunshot wound to the chest be so quick to assume someone else couldn't make a similar recovery?

Face it. Tony pinched Chris' nose for the same reasons he squeezed the trigger of the gun that killed Big Pussy. Because he wanted to save his own ass.

Tony saw he had an opportunity to rid himself of a big liability...and he was pissed at Christopher for being high, being a bad father and for failing to show him enough respect.

Hadn't seen it mentioned yet, but the bit with Paulie at his mom's funeral was good. Just like Paulie to be pissed about how not enough people showed up at his Mom's funeral, after he bought all those prayer cards (and probably shelled out all of $50)

I still don't think Tony will take the Kevin Finnerty route. If this show has taught us anything, it's that you never can change, no matter how hard you try.

  8. I agree -- Tony killed Chrissy to save his own ass. He was worried. Chrissy was starting to break during that final chat with the AA friend last week. He was going to bring it all down once he felt unloved in the family. Paulie sure got that ball rolling last week. For totally legitimate reasons, of course.

That Las Vegas stuff was awesome.

  9. Had Christopher not been high and admitted not being high I think it's very possible Tony would have tried to save him.

It wasn't a mercy killing. You could see it in Tony's eyes. It was time for him to go because he had proven unreliable over and over again.

As for all these people on here saying how great an episode it was, I'd really like to hear some reasons ... although a few are now rolling in. I'm not saying it was bad. I'm sorta on the fence and with a year and a half between seasons sometimes I have to look up shit to remind myself who the hell Kevin Finnerty is.

And a question: When Tony wins for a second time at roulette, what does he say? It sounds like, "he's dead." If that's true, it's almost like now that Chris is dead his luck is changing.

Agreed. Tony saw a golden oppurtunity to rid himself of Chris and all of his mounting problems. And acted. No mercy killing. This wasn't about what's best for Christopher -- Tony couldn't stand him, or atleast believes he couldn't stand him.

I love the confusion Tony felt throughout the episode. He's seeing close ones mourning, yet not feeling anywhere near those emotions, even though he was perhaps closest to Chris. Comparing Kelli to Jackie Kennedy, asking Carm if there was perhaps a hint of glee in her voice when she heard the news, venturing out to Vegas to escape and living very similar to Chris. This entire episode, like so many classic Sopranos episodes, revolved almost soley around Ton, his decisions, his mannerisms, etc. Very interesting character study, this series is.

Tony was looking at an obviously wired Chris just before the wreck. Then when Chris admitted to having drugs in his system, I think Tony saw a quick and easy end to what was going to be an ongoing problem that would probably bring him down too.

Still, for Tony to just squeeze out Chris' life like that shows how brutally cold-blooded he learned to be. How far away from the fat, wide-eyed kid who couldn't stomach watching his old man hack off the butcher's finger he had to be to become Tony Soprano, mob boss. And maybe, despite the terrible acts he had done seemingly without conscience, it was slowly tearing him apart.

Next week looks like a show of reckoning with Phil Leotardo and NY. Granted the trailers also try to confuse (last week, everyone thought AJ was a goner) but it seems that Sil gets a punch from Phil's hard-skulled lieutenant.

I don't know if there will be a big finale for the Sopranos family or for Tony. I think tonight's episode showed the alpha and omega of Tony Soprano.

He did say "he's dead." what hasn't been discussed is the fact that Tony, the ruthless mob boss, is taking psychedelics for the first time. that can't be taken lightly.

how many revelations entered his thick skull in that Vegas casino, which is a very weird place to be tripping. I know, I've done it — twice.
