    OK. But that just means that a nincompoop is using the numbers. That doesn't mean statistics are a poor basis for gaining insights, generally.

    Agreed, the source of the number is just as important as the number itself. Equally important is exactly what the number means, like in the Rolling Stone thread with what constitutes "sexual assault."

    I think if we were to try and find some stats on white cops vs. black criminals, we would run into as many gray areas and equivocations as that case.
