I don't mind the drivers in RI (for the most part). But last summer in Florida I was amazed at how many douches there were on the road. I saw one guy cut across FIVE lanes with no signal to make an exit. I just drove by amazed.

The other day I'm driving down I-95 and see a sign, "Two left lanes blocked before Sunrise Boulevard."

I was about 5 miles north of Sunrise at the time. I immediately moved to the right.

But not everyone else. Nooooooooo. Because those left lanes were still moving quickly (thanks to some people heeding the warning early by moving to the right), they continued in the left lane until the unavoidable bottleneck occurs and they are forced to move to the right . . . about half a mile in front of me.

    It's all about being selfish.

"Fuck the warning. Fuck those saps who moved over early. I'll continue on until I have to move over, and I will be ahead of them."

"Because it's all about me me me me me me me."

Those people are doing it correctly. You are doing it wrong. At the bottleneck, the best way to do it is like a zipper. One from the right, one from the left, repeat. People trying to get over well in advance of the bottleneck are creating a lot of mini-bottlenecks. Ideally, everyone would stay in his or her lane, and the only merging from the closed lane would occur at the point where it closes.
