@RickStain RT Poisoned water, do not drink, plant is poisoning us.

Also, aren't we talking about a sports columnist?

Yes, RickStain, Twitter is so reliable. I especially love it when everyone tweets about someone being dead who isn't.

Yeah, exactly. I have no issue with him criticizing the layoff. But you would think John Feinstein could do better than to channel Billy Walsh from "Entourage."

I knew when I posted that it would be twisted to become some kind of support for the current reality, or an espousal of the Bleacher Reports of the world.

"Is that the world you WANT?!?!?!?!"

    Just . . . read it again.

Do note that the uppercase and eight extra punctuations were the above poster's and not mine.

Sorry, I don't believe everything in life should be done based on the lowest common denominator. Over time, people do grow up and want to know about the world. God help us if no outlet dedicated to doing that remains.

President Dewey shakes his fist at you. But Twitter is still a very imperfect thing that should not be one's primary source of news. Too many people use it to put out their first supposition, only to far too many times have to correct it. And it's sad if you think 140 words is the perfect vehicle for reporting on the world. Maybe to refer to reports on the rest of the world, sure.

I don't think it's the perfect vehicle, of course. But I think the "without professional reporters we'll all die from poisoned water" hysteria is a bit much.

No it's not. If there aren't businesses that dedicate themselves to news-gathering as their main mode of making money, how in the heck will such stuff be discovered? As little as it is said journalists make, the vast majority of bloggers make nothing, and are far more into commentary than news gathering, and have no financial resources or incentive to do investigative journalism.

Not sure I've ever commented on a thread that wasn't about my favorite writer, but god DAMN is anyone else offended by Feinstein's whining there? Scores of people from FanHouse are being fired with nothing to fall back on. JF has his WaPo column and his books and whatever else he does to make the quickest buck possible -- and possibly by firing him, The Sporting News saved one FanHouse writer. Maybe not. Either way, Feinstein slays me. Let 'em eat cake, John.
