The Rockbottom Pipeline is in a position to report that seven finalists are currently in Round Two -- the essay question portion (I certainly hope "whirled peas" is one of the answers from someone) of their game. Good luck to all, and stay tuned for the swimsuit contest!

Correct. Written questions, with written answers submitted back.

Don't know if a finalist receives extra credit or demerits for using Hoosier-red ink. (That's fat changeup is for you, Slappy!)

    Yeah, no kidding...
Will the finalists receive extra points on the physical interview if they wear a Crimson and Cream (or Crean) tie?

I did the questions a year ago. They were really the kind of questions you would receive in a phone interview, but you had time to collect your thoughts and put your best foot forward.

And I wore a green-and-white striped tie to my interview. Seemed to work just fine.

Not yet, but it sounds like the process is moving along.

    Any news on this position.

Because if what I'm hearing is true, it could be a very good hire for Bloomington and a terrible loss for another newspaper already on its last leg.

Down to the end, should be a decision very soon. I think what you're hearing is true.

Well, that's the rub. The paper that the afore(not)mentioned person would be leaving is currently undergoing some changes as far as implementing a regional copy desk. The last cluster of papers that did a similar consolidation eliminated a couple of their SEs in favor of "regional" SEs. I would imagine this shop would replace the outgoing person, but you never know with this company.
