Crystal Lake is not exactly a dump, though the sprawling stretch of strip malls that brought life's modern amenities to the place certainly detract from the area's appeal. Still, there are few newspapers of this size better situated for success. No one who ever became sports editor here made a bad career move in taking the job. Every one of them has gone on to bigger and better things, either inside or outside the company.
