No, that was a joke. Mike's a cool guy and does good work. And, no, I don't work with him.

Guess I can go ahead and make this official now: I'll be heading to Fayetteville as well. In typical NASA fashion, the good people at the Observer have hired all three of the finalists for the SE job in some capacity. What's the line from Contact? "Why build one when you can build two for twice the price?"

Anyway, I'm joining the staff as the Editor of Innovation and Readership in the newsroom. I'm in a bit of a hurry currently, so I wont' fully explain what that is right now, but it's going to be good for me and great for my family. I'll start there Oct. 30 or 31 probably.

We'll be looking for an ASE here in Bakersfield. This really is a good position working for a great paper. If anyone wants to know more about the position, let me know. I'll be happy to sing the praises of this paper.

I can't speak to whether these new positions will actually have a positive effect on the FO, but if I were still there I would be encouraged that the paper is actually adding positions.

Is it true that if you work in Fayetteville, you have to be Airborne certified?

No, but get ready to see some seedy nightlife. Some say that Fayetteville's improved in that area. Problem is, that doesn't say much since it couldn't get much worse.

Not knowing more than what's been on this thread, it sounds like Fayetteville made some wise decisions, and turned a negative into a positive. Congrats. Persistence does pay off.

OK -- someone else has got to be thinking this; please tell me I'm not alone.

Someone from the DMN is going to Fayetteville?

That seems like a STEEP step backward, even as an ASE.

I'm not blasting the guy from the DMN; just really curious how Fayetteville can afford him and how Fayetteville can land a DMN staffer???

Well, knowing NOTHING personally, but ...

    All the upheaval in Dallas.

It's an assistant managing editor job, so it probably pays pretty well, relatively speaking.

    Maybe lifestyle considerations.
