One, thing I have learned from reading this site, is you can't win. So I won't try. Have a good day.

You have a couple extra commas in there, Mr. Deputy Sports Editor.

Greg, there's an opening at the Orlando Sentinel. I'm sure Tim Stephens is awaiting a call from The Task Force on who he should hire. :D

I prefer to say it's a message board example of "have a take, and don't suck."

    And I loved this:

Wow, what a great thing for the (deservedly) vaunted University of Missouri School of Journalism to do! And without any kind of benefit to Missouri, other than being a part of this diversity push!

    Oh, wait.

"After the course, students will be assigned to paid internships in news organizations. Upon successful completion of the program, students returning to college will receive a $500 scholarship.

Under the hosting partnership, a Missouri journalism student, selected by faculty, will receive a spot in the class each year."

Wise move by Missouri. It will pay dividends for students, and your organization.

But let's not act like this was pure altruism.

Of course it's not. They're kissing the NABJ ring like most J-schools do.

My lunch. Which is finally eaten, so I can get back to work. I didn't get lost coming back from the ice machine this time.

Hiring the best people should be at the top of the priority list. If you put "diversity" at the top of your priority list, then you are, in fact, not needed in the post you mention.

In fits and starts, this business -- one in which inquisitive journalists grow, both in stature and pay -- is going away. Now, some people will keep solid jobs for a number of years to come, but the model is not coming back. And to that end, filling positions is less global than ever: Is the candidate close? relatively cheap? flexible to publishing trends? versatile? So age/race/sex/background, while relevant, have been reduced in importance. Is that ideal? No.
