Does that also apply to news as an official start date?

One bit of curiosity -- what about weekends?

M-F pub to start, not sure when (or if?) weekends will be added. I'm OK with that. News and other departments growing, too, though I'm nowhere near as up on those timetables and developments as I will be because I'm still transitioning out of one job and into the new one.

Desk will be universal and it will be adding positions, too, though I'm unsure of that timetable as well.

    What do I know?

I'm making some progress, sorting through things and figuring out my numbers and all that. Hope to have some announcements soon.

Drip, the March 1 date is my official full-time date - has nothing to do with the start of any particular sections. I'll have more on our actual first-section date soon. As people get hired, they will be able to start writing for the web in advance of the section launch.

Apparently, they're announcing at this weekend's CPAC event a date of March 21 for the 'new' TWT.

If they're doing a full relaunch, I hope they do a full-on redesign. I wouldn't mind seeing them go tab.

Congrats, Moddy. I guess this means I won't be seeing you out West again.

So apparently, it's on me to come East for that bread-breaking.

Not that Mike's post wasn't official enough, here's the release, which was issued Monday:

Make a point of demanding new office furniture. I worked on the Sports desk for three years up to the end and I'm still having nightmares about the chairs and desks. Also, Harrison's missing iMac might still be in the ceiling...

  11. Congrats Moddy....Well deserved!!!!

OK, so here's the deal-io. Though we don't officially start until March 1, we're settling in and starting to get things organized. Dan Daly (columnist) and Patrick Stevens (colleges) are returning and will start tomorrow, so we'll have an online presence in advance of our section launch date of March 21. I'll have a couple of other hires to announce soon. We're off to a terrific start in that department.

It is an interesting situation, building the staff. I've never done mass hirings before and it isn't as simple as going out and finding the 10 or so people I'd like to have aboard. We feel a little like a GM, working with a salary cap. I have a good range of salaries but can't place everyone at the high end or low end. And since we aren't going to have a huge staff to start, we have to find reporters who can handle pro beats in the nation's capital at entry-level salaries.

What is that? I'll let you know if we get to that point. It's not bad at all for entry level but it IS entry level.

This is not an age thing. I'll consider anyone of any age who can fit into that salary slot. Is this you? Send me a PM here and keep it very brief. Just enough to tell me why it is you. I'll get back to you with an address to send some stuff. And do it quickly.

Do not e-mail. Do NOT call. Do not Facebook. Please. Follow the direx and we'll see where it may go.

(ps - The Times will use a universal desk. I'm not hiring the desk people and I'm not sure what the expansion plans on the desk are, but I will try and find out and let any interested people know)
