Heck yeah, that's dumb. I was reading a story over lunch where Dave Pelz went to Shinnecock to scout for the U.S. Open and on one hole putted a ball off the green into a bunker (sounds fun). So the USGA would call the subsequent bunker shot a putt? Wtf?

Don't let 'em fool you. The PGA Tour doesn't keep the kind of information a bettor would want to know when wagering in individual match-ups or groups of three.

Shipnuck made a good point in a story about how the major sports have closed practices and close-to-the-vest injury reports, whereas golf has open practice rounds and you can often observe on the range who is trying to figure something out, all for the price of a ticket. Not that any of that makes for sure things at the window, but it's information nonetheless.

I was going to make a snarky post about "You doubt the wagering interest in the Greater Rochester Open?" only to find one of those only-at-sj.com discussions on what constitutes a putt. What were the odds on that?

Seeing the rights flip of the WWE Smackdown to Fox (Big Fox), IRL to NBC and UFC to ESPN, made me wonder which non-Big Four sport (including college football and hoops) will see the biggest spike in attention with legalized sports betting. Soccer? NASCAR? Golf? Do people take action on the UFC?

A former head of IndyCar racing wanted to have betting at the Indy 500, but the family that owned the Speedway didn't want it (and it probably would have been impossible to do anyway, logistically). But motorsports could dearly use anything that gets more eyeballs, so why not gambling? I think the UFC already gets pretty good action in Vegas so undoubtedly it would get a boost too.

The Big 4 are going to make so much more in sponsorships, TV rights, let alone their cut once they set up on-site operations so fans can bet from the stands the same way they order nachos and a beer.
I also figure the Patriots won't be able to play games with their injury reports like they typically do.

    “Can’t have it both ways.”

What rock has this guy been living under? Everything that’s powerful in this country from sports to media to politics to finances has it both ways these days and frankly has for years.

    CBB.

Many people have a rooting interest, and they think they have a knowledge of the sport.
