How many people who are regular sports bettors will move from online betting to legal bricks and mortar betting in their home states? Will it be easier to go to a casino and bet on a team in Cleveland than it would be to keep betting online?

I can remember Southwest having direct flights from my airport to Vegas for $169 round trip. If I try to fly out there tomorrow, it would cost me $909.

From a personal standpoint, I assume that Illinois will legalize it and Indiana won't, at least at first. I can't even have liquor delivered to my house in Indiana. I'll probably have to go to the brick-and-mortar casinos/parlors in Illinois, because I assume that Indiana residents won't be able to bet online.

In other words, I think the brick-and-mortar casinos/parlors will be pretty popular on state lines where one state has legalized it and the other hasn't. Like fireworks.

  4. WV is ahead of the game.
State Legis. approved it earlier this year. Now pro sports league are seeking a cut via an "integrity fee."
Twelves states have already told them No. And why would any of them give any credence to the idea?
WV Gov. Jim Justice, who owns The Greenbrier Resort and Casino (resort also hosts NFL teams for spring training), met with pro sports officials and lobbyists last week to entertain the idea. Justice even went so far as to announce a deal had been reached with casino owners agreeing to pay the fee out of their portion of profits.
Shortly after announcement, casino owners and lawmakers came out in the media staying they had no idea what was going on, had NO knowledge of a deal and NO interest in visiting the idea of an "integrity fee."

  6. It ain't just Vegas.

Don't nickel and dime me. Tell me what it's going to cost.

How many people go to Vegas for sportsbook?
My old boss goes for the sports book and hold'em - and probably hookers.
What percentage of folks go there because of the legality to wager on sports?

Pennsylvania will be among the first to offer sports gambling in casinos. Ohio hasn't even talked about in the legislature yet. Ohio is years away. So the PA casinos that got a head start on Ohio will again get a head start on them re: legalized sports gambling.

Here's an article talking about how close each state is to enacting sports gambling:

How close is my state to legalizing sports betting?

Looks like, from my standpoint, Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan are all on about the same track right now. Whichever is first is going to have a nice windfall for a little while.

If the gambling states also legalize weed, we can have us one hell of a party every weekend.

I can't imagine how quickly the Cherokees and Choctaws will be opening sports books in their casinos. That big one on the Texas-Oklahoma border is just 90 minutes from Dallas.

Not to mention Foxwoods and Mohecan Sun in Connecticut.
