I agree with you. Which highlights to the amount of talent that Sports Illustrated had on staff. While the current staff is good those were truly the good old days.

Where could he get a full-time job with the pay he should command? Maybe at this stage of his life he prefers to write books and not work full time?

As a child, loved The Hockey News almost as much as Zander Hollander's Complete Handbooks ... and that's saying a lot.

The last point could definitely be a thing. But your first point speaks to what I’m talking about. Let’s assume he did want to work full-time. Is there a market for him? I would like to hope so since he is one of the greatest to ever do it.

This article, by Douglas S. Looney in the Aug. 27, 1979 issue, has long been one of my favorites. And there is no way something like this gets written today.

(Hopefully this works. SI Vault has lots of broken links these days).

Who regularly publishes longform work now? Does ESPN.com, The Athletic or Wall Street Journal? Those would be the first two places I would think of where S.L. Price could be hired.

    Sent earlier this evening:

    Dear Reader,
On behalf of Sports Illustrated, I want to thank you for your commitment to our brand over its 70-year history. Your loyalty to and love for SI has not gone unnoticed by our editors, writers, staff and the leadership at our new publisher, Minute Media. Like all of us, you are dedicated to the best journalism and storytelling in sports media. We appreciate that.

As you may have heard, we recently began a new chapter in our long history: Sports Illustrated and SI Kids will now be published by Minute Media, a global media company. We are thrilled to be a part of the Minute Media family and are excited for what the future holds as we continue to grow SI as a modern media outlet. We are equally excited that the magazine will be a core part of that future.

We are pleased to tell you that we will be back with a new issue of SI which will be delivered to mailboxes during the first week of July: the Summer Olympics Preview Double Issue, ahead of the 2024 Games in Paris. That issue resumes our regular monthly publishing schedule — we will be sending another new issue to mailboxes in late July and every month after that; including the Football Preview Double Issue before the start of the season.

That said, we know that many of you are frustrated and have had concerns about the subscriptions you had with Sports Illustrated before Minute Media assumed print operations. We want to let you know that we are listening. Minute Media will deliver any outstanding issues of Sports Illustrated to those readers who purchased those issues directly from SI or SI Kids. Should you choose to renew your subscription or start a new one, orders will be processed and fulfilled by Minute Media. For any issues with receipt of the upcoming double issue, please contact magazine@si.com.

We appreciate your patience and look forward to continuing providing you the sports storytelling, insight and expertise that you’ve come to expect from us. Thanks again for your commitment and devotion to SI.

    Best,
    Steve Cannella
    Editor-in-Chief, Sports Illustrated

2020. It dropped from (mostly) weekly to biweekly in 2018, which is when I dropped it.

New SI arrived with Olympic Preview......

That has Athing Mu on the cover with the tagline: Track's brightest star will light up Paris.

    Oops.
