Rome is reading emails on the interview with Whitlock. The first said "please book Whitlock as a fill-in host again," to which Rome said "It's already booked."

If you want to hear what JW said at a later time, here's Rome's site which archives (in Real Audio, I think) the show daily (not sure if they keep it after the next show is archived):

    Out.

BYM - Sorry, if I knew it was pay for listen, I would have said that. I could have sworn I've listen to the show for free on there though. Maybe once the show is a certain amount old (after 1 day?) they charge to listen to it, much as ESPN Radio now does.

Apparently Screamin' A. Smith has said that ESPN is talking to him about the 1-4 weekdays slot on ESPN Radio. Please, no!

I'd listen BUT ONLY if he strickly talks about basketball. Because the guy knows his bball.

Jorge Sedano is the best guy out there. That is all.

I listened to SAS for a couple of segments, but it was just too difficult. Oregonian columnist Canzano has reported that Cowherd might be shifted to that spot as well, if he wants it. I think Ed Schultz is better on sports than either of those guys. (when he does talk about sports).

Ugh, let's hope not. I listened to Bob Valvano in the slot today, did a great job as usual. But, then again he's too sane and composed for ESPN to give him the slot. ::)

Sounds like someone angling to get the gig and trying to get some publicity momentum to try to help him land the job.

You know, I hate to say this, but there's such a scarcity of talent at ESPN Radio (yes, think John Siebel and Amy Lawrence), Stephen A. might actually be more compelling (in his own, inimitable way) than anyone else they could throw in there.

I tell you who I would like to hear get a chance is Freddy Coleman. I'm not sure if he would want a solo gig or if he's used to or could carry out that format (although he had done pretty well when on solo duty for "Gamenight"), but he is as well-prepared as anyone on ESPN Radio and far more prepared than almost all of that same lineup. And if he doesn't know something, he will just say it rather than trying to string it along until he finds the fact via Google search.

I would love if they hired Whitlock, but I guess that's not really an option, is it? :)

There may well be better hires from outside of the ESPN Radio family, but if they want to stay within their current roster, I think Freddy might make a strong choice.

I think Bob Valvano would be a terrific choice as long as they don't let him do the "Zero Thousand Dollar Pyramid" or the "Match Game" games.
