    You don't hyphenate -ly words.

    You don't hyphenate adverbs ending in -ly.

    Not all words that end in -ly are adverbs.

    "Early-morning rain" is correct.

    Easiest example I can think of as an exception to the "-ly is never hyphenated" dictate. Nice call.
