I find it odd that, of all the pretty salient points that I think I and others have made on this thread, you pick out one line, because you think it sounds sanctimonious.

So, what? You don't hope that Tyler has learned anything from all this?

This situation doesn't make Milwaukee look very good, either. Even if nobody at the J-S knew Tyler was talking to or accepted an offer from the Sun-Sentinel, it says something about them that this is the person they picked. As someone mentioned, the hiring pool is deeper now than ever, and the first thing their new hire does is double-back on a respected editor via text message, making him the talk of an industry message board.

Even if nobody directly involved is steamed over this matter, someone in Milwaukee needs to give this kid some guidance.

As if what's posted here actually matters and sways opinions within the business?

  5. From the sounds of it, you guys are pretty jealous.

This dude is 23 and murdering you fools. Instead of eating cheetos and sitting at your computer wishing what could have been 25 years ago after you left that awful community college, maybe you should be proactive in trying to get a better job/life/girlfriend. I understand that while some of you work super hard, you didn't work as hard as this dude Dunne. From what I can tell, bro is getting major heat from the clowns on this forum. So he's moving around a lot. Is that a bad thing? NC was a good gig but it wasn't him. The Buffalo News is overrated. Oh, and if nobody did their homework (which it sounds like you did not) the News just hired back Tim Graham. With an award-winning writer who happens to be 23 on your staff, why bring back a worm like Graham? Bro is chasing the American Dream. Let him live his life.

So to all the haters - man up and grow a pair. Instead of spending all of your time on this forum hating on a dude that's crushing this industry, keep working. Get better. Study the Stylebook. But just because you're 45 and overweight with a receding hairline doesn't give you the right to blast this young gunner.

    PEACE

That was a great first post, Tyler.

  7. The guy isn't wrong. I have a date with my Stylebook tonight. Hopefully it'll pay off and I'll get out of Podunk ASAP!

Okay, so I don't think I've posted here in over a year. But this...I couldn't help myself anymore.
I really, really hope this isn't Tyler Dunne and I'm going to assume, for sanity's sake, it's not. Had no problem with his jumping around before that post. Sometimes, job movement happens and you can't control when but when you have to go, you have to go.
What really brought me back to posting was the attack on Tim Graham, who is by no means a "worm." Graham is a hard worker and good reporter and from what I can tell, the ESPN blogging life is a grind and wears people down. So good for Tim for being able to get a good job if he wanted to get out. And if he passed over Mr. Dunne in the process, well sometimes that's what experience does for you.

So Dunne, if that is you, time to put your head down and work just like all the Syracuse grads before you have done. Don't tarnish that recent legacy set by Thamel and Bishop and Passan and Saslow and Harlan and Kilgore and Gelb and countless others over the past decade or so. Just do your job. If it isn't you, still take that advice but tell whoever is sticking up for you that he/she is doing you no favors.

Hope this decision doesn't work out as poorly for Tyler as LeBron's.

    I resent that.

I would never eat cheetos at my computer.

I also resent that. My husband would be upset if I found a girlfriend.

    (Well, maybe not ... )

How do you figure? I'm sure those in the hiring process at the Sun-Sentinel spent a decent amount of time talking to the 'good-hearted kid with a great work ethic.' If their worries about the "red flags" were easily alleviated by the "Five minutes with Tim Tebow," how do you think that worked out for them?

    Ha! You don't say!!
