It is for these reasons that I'm convinced this job is for people already in the region only.

Anyone know if this job is still open?

Port Isabel had a couple nice runs at the 3A level in the mid-90s, but anything higher than that, the Valley teams are toast when they venture north.

  4. I'll put this in terms that can be understood. When I first saw this, I was looking at this job and a job in Idaho. I have an aunt who lives in Texas, and when I told her that I was thinking about applying for a job in McAllen, her reply was, "I'd rather you be in Idaho."

And no, my aunt does not hate me.

    Joe is right.

During my three years on the border, I had a girlfriend in Louisiana. We used to meet in Houston, which was a little more than halfway between us (closer to her).

When I got to Victoria, goin' back, I'm thinkin' I'm making good progress. Then you see the sign that said Brownsville was another 229 miles.

    Brutal.

Although you can drive like Mario Andretti through the King Ranch.

Long drives are pretty common in Texas.

I emailed the sports editor and I got some auto response saying he's out of the office from the 21st until the 29th. So if they haven't hired anyone yet I wouldn't expect anything until then.

Between the Valley and Corpus and/or San Antonio, they're long and pretty desolate.

With the combination of swine flu / Mexican drug lords, this could be a scary place to live right now.

Agreed. South Texas is definitely not for everyone. It can be a huge culture shock for most, I would imagine.
