You get a prize when you tell the story of being held hostage at gunpoint in the newsroom.

Well, since this is the only situation I'd ever feel comfortable saying this to you, how about you grab me a beer newbie. :)

The other great thing is it's a short drive to Hope Mills, N.C., where you can eat at Bruce and Mickey's, perhaps the greatest barbecue in the world.

It's also about an hour outside Wilmington.

I'm not sure if it is still a p.m. paper, but when I worked there you could occasionally layout in the morning, drive to beach, lay out there for a few hours, then head back and cover a game at night.

    Folks...

This thread has been buried for a bit but resurrected thanks to a post by my boss, Donnie Douglas, via me.

Before I cut & paste, I want to mention that the position is still open. So I encourage anyone who hasn't applied to do so.

    Now heeeeerrrrre's Donnie:

"Hey, I am Donnie Douglas, but for convenience posting under Khary's name. I
read the entire thread and wasn't too offended. I recognize one of my former
reporters, but a couple are a mystery. If you read this, take it as an
invitation to drop me an email to catchup. I am always interested in how
folks do when they leave here.
thanks for the defense Sammy B.
This is not a place for someone who can't handle criticism. I try very hard
to be fair, but I can be demanding. I care about the product.
I come from a sports background. The first thing I did when I became editor
here was expand the sports staff from two to three. I have always offered to
help sports writers develop their stories and edit them. But I typically
wait for them to approach me.
I proof the sports pages every day and I make suggestions. When I tell
someone to do something, I expect it to be done.
When it comes time for them to leave, I get very involved in helping a
person find the next level. I don't stand in the way of people advancing a
    career.
Lumberton is fine. Yea, it can be boring, but we 2 hours away from Cheel,
Raleigh, Charlotte, an hour from the beach, we have UNCP."

Got a couple of messages from folks with questions about the opening.

And to answer the most common question, yes, May graduates are highly encouraged to apply.

First off, you know the Razor gonna Shine!!!!

Yeah, too many exclamations and sub-par grammatics, but the question I have is about passion. Are you guys really ready for someone to pull out all the stops and give several high-schoolers and sub-mid-major collegiates the kind of coverage reserved for the big leagues?

It's about to get ugly here.

Ugly?!?! I fail to see how things are going to get ugly. Am I missing something?
