It makes me feel uncomfortable too, by the way. It's not a lacking in your part, and you're to be commended for thinking that it is.

In a perfect world, this would be no big deal, something along the lines of finally having a congenital heart defect fixed. But things aren't remotely like that, this affects not just the principal. but all those around them.

The entry about how much we miss a normal girlhood... yes, that hits me where I live. What she writes is true, we try to console ourselves with the undeniable truth that we've done things no other women could have. Many of us were in the Special Forces, we didn't have to cope with the glass ceiling, at meetings we were listened too, not ignored.

I've travelled the world, eaten Green Curry on the banks of the Chao Praya, inhaled Kimchee in Seoul, Kohl-und-Pinkel in Bremen, Alaskan King Crab in Akron, and Rijstafel in Den Haag. I've watched the Sun come up from a Destroyer's Bridge in the SW Pacific, heard the creaks as the sub I'm in hits deep diving depth, and seen my team's satellite deploy from its booster on live webcam.

And I would have traded it all away just for one slumber party. To look normal when I was a teenager. Not complaining, things are as they are, and many have worse, but yes, we miss girlhood and young womanhood. Babies. We just have to make the most of what we had, and not whinge about it. Christine has expressed it perfectly.

Yikes. That post is either too scary or too stolen. I think I'm done with this thread. Not Mike's blog, though.

I don't think you have to worry too much there.

    Scary, definitely. Not stolen, anyway.

    And Christine's, not Mike's.

    I've Never Been To Me
    ( Charlene )

Hey lady, you lady, cursing at your life
You're a discontented mother and a regimented wife
I've no doubt you dream about the things you'll never do
But, I wish someone had talked to me
Like I wanna talk to you.....

Oh, I've been to Georgia and California and anywhere I could run
I took the hand of a preacher man and we made love in the sun
But I ran out of places and friendly faces because I had to be free
I've been to paradise but I've never been to me

Please lady, please lady, don't just walk away
'Cause I have this need to tell you why I'm all alone today
I can see so much of me still living in your eyes
Won't you share a part of a weary heart that has lived million lies....

Oh, I've been to Niece and the Isle of Greece while I've sipped champagne on a yacht
I've moved like Harlow in Monte Carlo and showed 'em what I've got
I've been undressed by kings and I've seen some things that a woman ain't supposed to see
I've been to paradise, but I've never been to me

    [spoken]
Hey, you know what paradise is?
It's a lie, a fantasy we create about people and places as we'd like them to be
But you know what truth is?
It's that little baby you're holding, it's that man you fought with this morning
The same one you're going to make love with tonight
    That's truth, that's love......

Sometimes I've been to crying for unborn children that might have made me complete
But I took the sweet life, I never knew I'd be bitter from the sweet
I've spent my life exploring the subtle whoring that costs too much to be free
    Hey lady......
I've been to paradise, (I've been to paradise)
But I've never been to me

(I've been to Georgia and California, and anywhere I could run)
I've been to paradise, never been to me
(I've been to Neice and the isle of Greece while I've sipped champagne on a yacht)
I've been to paradise, never been to me
(I've been to cryin' for unborn children that might have made me complete)
I've been to paradise, never been to me
(I've been to Georgia and California, and anywhere I could run)
I've been to paradise, never been to me

    You Grok in Fullness.

Except it wasn't Paradise, more like Hell. And we didn't get a choice. It was, however, never boring. I'm glad it's over though. Transition is hard, not Transitioning even harder. Christine is going to find it even better soon, expect her to get a little carried away at times. Bubbly, even.

Amidst all the Doom n Gloom, the crap we took in the past, and yes, the bigotry, ignorance and often well-meaning incomprehension and total misunderstanding of some of those around us, the relief is indescribable.

Why is this, ahem, gal's personal life relevant on a sports page?

Maybe because her work appeared there for over 20 years?

This fits in with the SportsbyBrooks blog, which said:

"In all three interviews Daniels has conducted on radio, she has not been asked about her wife, L.A. Times sportswriter Lisa Dillman. The two are divorcing and SbB has learned that Daniels will only appear on shows that agree not to ask about her marriage to Dillman and their pending divorce."

Daniels was on Mason and Ireland yesterday afternoon on ESPN-710. Meant to listen on my way home, got a phone call and when I got done, forgot it was on.
