    No, the 5A cutoff in Texas last time was 2,065 and higher, which actually dropped a tad from the previous realignment.

    The reason being that most of the new schools were 4A, and the current fashion among educators is that 4A-sized schools can provide the best education.

    That trend will continue in the next realignment, but will dry up in 2014.

    Frisco, which used to be ground zero for the 4A-is-better crowd, has stopped building new high schools and will roll with what they have, even if they slip into 5A.

    In Louisiana, there is a 5A but I think there might just one public school in Louisiana that would be a 5A in Texas.

    Now if only we could be rid of the division system for football champs in Texas...

    The 5A system is fine (I mean, 7A? Jesus). But two champs in each classification? Screw that.
