Drag racing is WAY better than NASCAR. Drivers are DYING to talk to the media...and if it's NHRA, you get John Force.

    Won't do better than that.

    Unless you get Ashley Force.

  3. Mmmmmm. Ashley Force. I've had the privilege -- of interviewing her. It was a pleasure. I haven't covered much drag racing, and I don't think the sport is all that interesting, but I've talked to people from just about every sport there is, certainly more than that whippersnapper know-it-all, Mizzou, and drag racers are fantastic interviews as a general rule.

Maybe they're so expressive because they know they could hit a wall and explode the next time down the track. Or maybe it's just because they don't get a lot of attention, generally. I think anybody who has ever interviewed John Force puts him on their top-10 list -- he's an incredible storyteller, a money quote. I liked Gary Scelzi and Melanie Troxel, too.

  4. My bad Mizzourgrad, just kind of let it slip through that you had corrected your statement to Drag Racing. I wasn't trying to kick you. You often offer some pretty keen insight.

Drag racers in general are great. Troxel's good, Haven't dealt with Scelzi. Troxel's husband, Tommy Johnson Jr., is good too. J.R. Todd, one of the young guns is great. So is Clay Millican.

Force, however, is in a league of his own.

John Force may be the best interview in professional sports.

    only if he wins.

on another note: i don't mind drinking or those who drink. i've only drank once on the job, though, and never will again. it was a rookie mistake.

i've never drank on the job, but I did do a wake and bake and then got called in on a Saturday I was supposed to be off.

that was about seven years ago, and possibly one of the worst desk shifts of my career.

Yeah, I mean I've been drinking and then had someone call me I wasn't expecting and tried to hold it together long enough to get what I needed.

But I've never been drinking before a scheduled work thing.

Maybe you should have done what a long-ago co-worker of mine once did -- call in drunk.

  12. Ok, a couple of pints and I'll talk to Ashley.
