I recall cans of beer being passed out in the press box after a University of Colorado football game in Boulder a few years back. Coors Light, of course. I passed, but some of my colleagues partook.

How could you pass? I probably would have stuck a few in my laptop bag.

Interesting topic. I put hotel bar tab on my expense report (we are lax at scrutinizing) I am never out of hand though. Some venues have beer available after the game. I would never indulge one until I was absolutely done with my work. If I had to see an athlete or do a story, no alcohol near me. I drink more on the road. What else are you supposed to do when you are alone at night and don't know anyone?

Beer is still very common in pro press boxes -- all sports -- once the game is over. Some will have coolers or tubs filled with cans or bottles, others have taps in the media dining area that begin flowing when the game ends. It is not at all rare to see prominent writers and columnists sipping a brew as they craft their stories.

I'm going to do a shot of Jeggy or two after my shift to recover from the heart attack Wisconsin gave me.

No, that's not who I'm talking about. But, if it were I would not say it was to protect the person I am talking about. I don't think it's a good thing to say much more than I already said. He's a great writer, beer or no beer. Enough said on him as far as I'm concerned.

Did my best copy editing when drunk. Of course, my college paper came out once every two weeks, so all the layout was spread out over a weekend. Still, the late-night layout artists would kinda jump a bit when I'd stumble in drunk to edit proofs.

On a side note, I'm drunk right now.

You only think you did your best coy editing drunk, just like I thought I did my best writing drunk my first semester in college. I went back and read one of those papers a couple years later and thought, Jesus, this reads like I was drunk when I wrote it. Gee, I wonder why.

Stumbling to my feet a few hours later...

    1.) Ow.

2.) Never tried writing drunk. That, however, is probably a good thing.

I get drunk off of half a glass of wine.

You will never see me drinking on the job.
