We have filled our vacant position. The Index-Journal has hired Cheng Sio, a former sports reporter at the Yuma (Ariz.) Sun. Cheng is a 2010 graduate of the University of Colorado, completed four internships, served as the sports editor of his college newspaper and was a member of the Sports Journalism Institute's Class of 2010.

We are excited to have Cheng joining our staff.

I would like to thank everybody for applying. We had more than 130 applicants for the job and many, many incredibly qualified sports journalists. There is an incredible amount of talent out there, and I hope you all land jobs in the near future. It's reassuring to me that the future of journalism is bright with such a tremendous amount of talented journalists.

If you have any questions, you can e-mail me at sbryan@indexjournal.com or message me here. Thank you again to all the applicants for applying and to those on this thread who said such nice things about me, our sports editor and our newspaper.

My guess is the sun will not be re-posting. Word on the street is they've frozen that position. Yes, things in Yuma can freeze, despite the heat.

I interviewed with Scott a few months ago for an opening and have nothing but nice things to say about him. We chatted on the phone for quite a while and he had me incredibly excited about the prospects in Greenwood. It seems like a really great paper.

I should note, however, that the paper won't pay for travel for in-person interviews. So if you're applying and live far away, it will cost you just to interview.
