if your connections didn't have anything to do with your current gig, chances are i wouldn't want it

In my experience, connections have EVERYTHING to do with getting high-profile or big gigs.

I'm not saying that, but I do think connections are key to getting this big jobs... at least to getting your foot in the door.

this is the same in pretty much any competitive field. getting your foot in the door is about who you know. then it can be merit-based but people get jobs through connections. this isn't complicated, although those without connections DO get some jobs.

From the Pipeline, I guess this is the main job since the backup job has been debated here already:

Phil Miller, the Utah Jazz beat writer for the Salt Lake Tribune, is leaving to take the Twins beat at the Pioneer Press in Saint Paul.

Look, you won't get this job if you are over 40 and can do the job even though they'll say no MLB experience, no consideration. Then again, an intern who has sniffed briefly a MLB stadium pressroom can be an automatic hire.

Which shows you how dysfunctional this business is.

You can get jobs without connections? Does anyone have evidence that this is true? My cynicism grows with leaps and bounds each passing day.

What, exactly, is your sour-grapes smelling point?
