He was insane. He would have been a goalie.

Nah. Cobain was a tortured genius. Insanity is liking Creed.

Goalies always get labelled as nutcases or eccentric but have you HEARD Cam Ward interviewed?

He comes across as the geek in your grade 12 math class. Beyond normal.

Yeah, the mentality of goalies is changing. I don't think they're all nutcases like they were 20, even 10, years ago. Check quotes from Kiprusoff and Bryzgalov. They're 'just doing my job, man.'

When he played, Mike Richter was as close Peter Brady as you're going to find. Hell, you half-expected him to drink milk while being questioned by ink-stained scribes.

In the pre-mask days you had to be really flaky to play goal. The equipment back then was laughable. Their body armour consisted of a baseball catcher's chest protector and some felt arm protectors.

But I think the other ereason was that back then almost all of them were self taught.

They didn't have goalie schools like they do now, they didn't spend time wondering about the exact position of their trapper and they were pretty much left alone by their coaches who wouldn't presume to know a thing about playing the position.

Now it's a more technical position and you're basically wearing a suit of kevlar. You don't have to be nuts to play the position. Just mentally tough.

    I listened to Nickelback once.

After the song, I wanted my nickel back.

    :D

I think my favourite Canadian coin, narrowly beating out the 1973 horse quarter, is the Victory nickel of 1944-45. It was wonderful that the Royal Canadian Mint produced a replica last year to commemorate 2005 as the Year of the Veteran and as the 60th anniversary of the end of World War Two.

But that's only worth about two cents isn't it?

Of course, that may be worth more than Nickelback's singing.

Paul Newberry does a very nice job. His Game Seven advance:
