Dude will be proud of us. We made it to 200 pages before that little weasel hands out the Stanley Cup.

I knew this was going to come to pass again.

Again, I don't like Peter Karmanos, either. I don't like what he did to Hartford.

I understand the sentiment, but no matter how much of a scumbag he may be, hockey is now in the Carolinas. Enough people have embraced it for this market to be legitimate. Along the lines of the Original Six and the Canadian teams? No, not even close. But Raleigh's not a crossroads and there are enough Northern transplants and some Southern types who are warming to the idea for the Hurricanes to stick.

    Deal with it.

I'm a northerner and from the same city that Karmanos built his fortune.

I'm no fan of Karmanos. He goes and offers Fedorov this huge contract, which the Red Wings had to match. Then a few years later, he's the biggest voice behind how "small market" teams can't compete in the old NHL.

Yet, despite that, I'm still pulling for the Canes.

Hey, I've got love for the Raleighites -- Raleighans? -- who have embraced hockey and who support the Canes all season long. It's the owner and the franchise that I have trouble with. I'm certainly a fan of hockey in the South -- I've embraced the Thrashers since Day 1 in 1999. I'm not against hockey in "non-traditional markets". ... (Hell, I live in L.A. now, c'mon! Rooted for the Ducks in this year's playoffs!) ... I just don't wanna root for a team that came to exist because of a greedy, bastard owner.

Let Caroliny get an expansion team like Nashville or Atlanta or Anaheim or Tampa-St. Pete. Then I wouldn't have a problem with 'em. But I got no problem with the fans. Just the fucking owner.

Possible penalty shot coming here for the Canes for Staios covering the puck in the crease.

At worst, they'll get a power play.

Controversy, thy name is the NHL Playoffs.

Considering the review process has gone on for ten minutes, more than one person is going to be displeased.

What a ballsy, smart play by Steve Staios.

Fair enough. That's my sentiment as well.

H_G, thanks for the support. And you're right ... all his whining about how small markets can't compete. He's a billionaire, he's notoriously cheap (charges media for pre-game meals that usually complimentary everywhere else I've been), yet offers Federov that ridiculous deal? Yeesh.

If I knew the rules, I would be outraged that there is no penalty shot.

They are saying that he did it after the play was dead, but I don't know....

Whatever, it was a great period of hockey

Plus, I'd rather not see Chris Pronger get his name on the Cup.
