Just saw Lowe on Sportsnet denying that Pronger has requested a trade or made those overtures to him. He also made it pretty clear that they have no interest in trading him.

    Mr Dad,

It appeared here before it appeared in print -- not that complicated. The GM that I spoke to told me the night of Game 5. In a sportsbar. Sitting next to Jordan Staal. (if you want to play along at home, ask Staal which clubs he visited.) I'm not saying that I had it a month ago. And if you had it Game 7ish I'm surprised you didn't bring it up. Here if nowhere else. I get into print monthly, nature of my work. All the sharp pencils along press row at the final and no one could firm up a rumour of some significance?

    Mr 03

I know they have "no interest." They better have no interest and plenty of patience if they want to do better than a trade at 40-cents to the dollar. What you could have is Yashin Redux, a guy sitting out, maybe a whole season leaving contracted millions on the table. What you could have is one unhappy camper and a guy who goes hero-to-lout in a blink. Here is your NHL-NHLPA partnership, small-market salvation.

Does NHL.com even post stories like that? If it has a "negative" angle, it seems they stay away from it.

    friend,

honestly, i dont know who knew and who didnt along press row. im aware our guys knew, but it was a tough evening to get something like that confirmed. i found out last night that pronger told a good friend of his in the media in february that this was going to happen, which is a stunner, because it didnt get reported.

and this is not a shot at you in any way, but i wouldnt post something like that anywhere unless i had some kind of confirmation. clearly, you were more comfortable with your information than i was with mine.

i do wonder though: arent you a little old to be hanging around with jordan staal?

Well of course, he is going to deny it. Doesn't mean it's not true.

    FOF,

If you broke the story in print first or with some kind of official web site, you've got my congratulations.

If you "broke" the story with a posting on a message board, I'm not sure exactly why you're patting yourself on the back so much. In fact, I'd wonder why you didn't have it in print.

    Mr Based,

Like I said, I write for a magazine. Not my freakin' concern that daily ins and outs. I need stuff that as news stands up weeks--other stuff I've done has, this wouldn't. What I did say on sj is that I posted the Pronger-unhappy here before it appeared in print. And when I first posted it people (Beef03) said it wasn't true.

    With relish, etc

Cool. Understand. Guess we can all carry on with our draft-day preparations now.

    Mr Based,

I'm sure you'll really school me. I missed a lot sitting in a team's meetings for four days. BTW only use quotation marks when you're quoting someboday. I never said "break," "broke," or anything like that. You did. I just wrote that this is what I heard--that Pronger wanted out. BFD. It would mean a lot more to you than me. I have other fish frying.

    Hold your pickle, etc

    Mr Dad,

All I know is that at Game 7 viewers knew it was Joel Darling's birthday and not that the franchise defenceman was bolting.

Re Jordan Staal, if I was old to be hanging around him, I was younger than the GM and the scouts that were with him too.

Check please ... give it to him, etc

Um, dude ... settle down. Nobody said anything about schooling anyone. Try rereading my post again.

Last time I try to be nice to someone on this board.

Yeah, now wasn't that a great Bob Cole moment.

Just to set me straight--did Strachan break this story first in print? I do know you mentioned it  here prior to Strachan's column but I'm not sure that really counts.

    Mr R,

Well, I'll I want it to count for is Band-Aid--I'm told in one breath I'm full of shit or dreaming when I say what I heard (from a GM who was ready to bet me a grand on it happening) and then it's gospel the next day because Al Strachan wrote it.

If someone in the daily media or broadcast sat on it, this would be up there with Jim Taylor sitting on the Gretzky trade.
