I ask this in the most general sense. I am not looking for specific: Has his accuser's name been revealed anywhere? I know it hasn't been released by authorities, but in this Internet world, I'm wondering if some blogger or message board goon has outed her. I'm not looking for her name, just wondering if the lid has been kept on.

I ask this also: The Steelers have always positioned themselves as the anti-Raiders. Is there a snowball's chance they would say, "We don't like the way Ben has represented the organization, therefore we will move forward without him?" Or, are they like anyone else and believe that you don't get rid of a winning QB unless you have to?

Not rape.

Smasher, I have not looked, but I will try and find her name for five minutes using Google and see what pops. I have not yet tried to look.

Junkie, Porter was shot outside a nightclub about seven years ago and one of the former Steelers is a noted breeder of pit bulls. I don't think any NFL team is totally clean.

I do know in the past, 1970s, they would request college transcripts of players to get a deeper understanding of the person they were drafting. The great Mel Blount is one example that comes to mind.

I cannot find her name, but TMZ supposedly has it.

I am willing to guess they will reveal it if she dropps the charges.

Without charges ... No chance in hell they move forward w/o Ben.
Maybe - a BIG maybe - if and when is contract were up, but right now, no chance.

Steelers will drop Ben when the contract is up just like they drop every other aging veteran not named Hines Ward - the vet will ask for more than his worth, and they will let him go.

I don't know about that.. That was a Tom Donahue mandate - and a good rule to live by IMO - but the Steelers have been resigning aging vets more and more lately... They kept Hampton, brought back Randle El and Foote (though I think he is under 30) and kept Charlie Batch and looking at picking up Leftwich is he's availible.
I think last year they also resigned a few other guys over 30.

But not the high-dollar guys. Foote and El were pennies on the dollar for what they asked for a few years ago. The Hampton signing did suprise me, but the resigned Ward as well.

Honestly, after all these years, they have been right so much more often than wrong, that I do not question it.

It's interesting that the accuser and her family retained counsel fairly early in the process.

I don't think it speaks to Roethlisberger's guilt or innocence, but I do think it might speak to what the accuser wished for the ultimate disposition of the case.

And I'm trying to figure out if it's a bad thing. If Ben did something untoward, and it were my daughter....... Would I want to put her thorough a public trial at age 20? Or would I want her set for life financially as a result of this hardship?

It's a tough question to answer.

Set for life!?! She didn't get that much hush money. If, in fact, she got any at all.

Would a million dollars set up your kid for life?

Invested properly, I think it could. I mean, not living high on the hog, but not having to worry about that rainy day.

And I only throw out the 1 million because I know someone who got that kind of a settlement in a sex assault case, and the attacker wasn't famous.
