    Waylon,

Was that directed at my post about the accuser hiring an attorney?

In criminal cases, the attorney who usually "represents" the accuser is the district attorney.

It is somewhat unusual for the alleged victim in a case to hire her own private attorney. But there are reasons for doing that.

I agree with you! Read what I posted.

I've disclosed many times that I have lawyers in the family - including one very good criminal defense lawyer (who happens to practice in Georgia). And this lawyer has been hired several times to represent the victim in a criminal case -- often to "make sure the D.A. is does his job" and is not asleep at the switch.

In fact, Criminal Lawyer Lugs recently represented the victim in a horrible case, fairly high-profile... a case in which the attacker happened to have been represented by one of Big Ben's lawyers. The attacker got 90 to serve. He will die in prison. So I think Criminal Lawyer Lugs did an outstanding job representing the victim's interests in that case. So did the D.A., obviously.

But that wasn't a case that involved money. It was a case that involved making sure a monster got locked up forever. In that case, the victim won't sue her attacker in a civil claim because he's now broke.

Conversely....... in the Roethlisberger case, the accuser is reportedly no longer working with authorities. It appears the reason for her hiring an attorney isn't "to make sure the D.A. does his job." It would be for other reasons.

I agree totally. It's a really interesting question. Especially in this day and age. "Circus" is almost an understatement for what she would go through in today's TMZ environment if she chose to pursue criminal charges and a trial-- against the quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

I suppose if you just lived off the interest you'd never have to work. The problem is when you aren't working, you tend to spend more money. So there's the risk you'll tab into the account and start diminishing your return.

So I don't know if "set up for life" would apply or not. But if you'd give me $1m, I'd gladly try. ;D

Perhaps, but it is becoming a bit of a trend, and it is one that came back to bite them with James Farrior this past season. It is an uncapped year. He should have been cut already. But they don't like to do that.

The Steelers have been more image-conscious than some other franchises in the past, but they have had plenty of guys of questionable character. I don't think they considered for even a moment letting Roethlisberger go over this. They showed that when they retained James Harrison even after he faced domestic assault charges.

OK, now Ben's accuser will be talking to police.

And the bar had a video of Ben, the police watched the video but did not have the common sense to take it with them. Now the bar owner taped over the video.

Seriously, do I even need to link this. Chances are this is wrong as well.

    Farrior!
That's the guy I was trying to think of. Along with a few linemen.

Also, the issue with Foote wasn't money. He wanted to start and it was clear that Timmons was going to get that job, which turned into a season of Timmons showing that he belongs at outside linebacker. Foote asked for his release and the Steelers gave it to him.

To get back on track a bit, do the Steelers try to do things the right way? Perhaps a bit more than many other teams. At the very least, they seem to care a bit more about their image than most of the league. But will they employ guys of questionable character for the sake of winning? No question about it.

It's pretty clear the guy is at least a problem drinker. Too much repeat behavior.

Add women to the mix and he can't seem to handle any of it.

I wouldn't be surprised if he's already been sat down and told this by someone in the organization.

The latest revelations - that he was in a bathroom with a guard watching the door and not letting the girl's friend, who was concerned that her 20 year old friend was drunk and with an older man -- get back to her to check on her.

    That is very creepy.

This has been creepy from the get go.

And I won't be surprised if we find the bar is going to get some major renovation work done courtesy of an anonymous benefactor, somewhat related to having the video taped over....

Is there a Gloria Allred exception to this rule?
