I was talking to a friend of mine who is in sales in the Wheeling-Pit area. He said Ben may be well-liked as a player by fans, but he is a walking douchbag.
Young, rich, and full of himself.

A friend of a friend said Ben was bounced from a bar cause he kept smacking girls on the ass as they walked by.

Unfortunately, no matter how you slice it, one gender is still more in a position to take advantage of the other.

I was actually hoping someone would reassure me and post, "Don't worry. They're out there."

I'm going to skip the discussion on this ... agree to (slightly) disagree.

As to Big Ben's sitaution a 20-year-old girl with a BAC twice the legal limit doesn't exactly help her situation.

And I AM NOT absolving Roethlisberger's behavior.

From an early age, athletes are told they are different, better than regular folks. They're special. They're pampered and coddled from puberty (if not earlier) by adults. It increases for those star high school athletes as they're fawned over by college coaches and boosters. Then the elite of the elite wind up getting a bajillion dollars dropped in their lap. They're raised to think the rules don't apply, that they can get away with anything because they can run and jump and throw.

Hell, we should be shocked there aren't more athletes in trouble.

    Doesn't he have a sister who's a college athlete?

So he's out hitting on girls who would be in the age range of his little sister's friends.

    That's creepy, too.

Brady has his supermodel, Romo has his Jessica Simpson. Ben is out with 10 guys, trying to take advantage of drunk college girls.

I understand what you are saying and it is definitely a legitimate point, but I really hate that it turns into an excuse for some of these guys to act like assholes.

I think both genders are well-equipped to take advantage of one another in these situations. I don't know what happened in this particular case, but women don't have to be physically strong to know when there's a loaded wallet connected to a famous douchebag. Again, not saying that's what happened here, and I am also not absolving Roethlisberger's behavior, but some women are quite adept at playing certain games.

Let's see, she's too drunk to stand up, but she's also plotting a legal case against Roethlisberger?

I wasn't there. I'm not her. I don't know. I'm not saying that was the case in this situation. Actually, I'm reiterating that point from my previous post. I was speaking more to the general point that women can and do take advantage of famous men quite frequently.

    They are out there.

Unfortunately, they're too often overlooked by women who are more interested in being with the likes of Roethlisberger.

The biggest problem for Big Ben is this - he'll likely get off because he has lots of money and great attorney and it really is a he-said, she-said which is always tough to prove.

But his image, as more of the facts come out, is taking a huge hit, he's become somewhat of an embarrassment to the Steelers and I think there is no way in hell he will get away without paying her something in order to make a lawsuit go away -- and that will raise at least some question about his guilt or innocence.

This was a very good column and she is literally right on the money.

Anyone who doesn't think the NFL looks at the Pittsburgh Steelers as a very lucrative property, and that the league won't do everything it needs to do to protect that revenue geyser, is not living in a real world.
