I knew it! Thanks Double J. Yes - you're right. I have so many female friends who need a major attitude adjustment. I feel like saying to them, "Do you want to be happy the rest of your life or miserable the rest of your life?"

    --------------

    Great column by Hill.

Ask my wife if they're out there. Depends on what you're looking for, and sometimes where you're looking.

Awwww... I'm sure there are many out there, including many on this site.

"Depends on what you're looking for..."

Well - I'm being a complete over-generalizer here, but I'm beginning to think women need to face facts -- They're either looking for a man who can keep the "man animal" in check (gentlemen) or a man who can't keep the "man animal" in check.

And to say they can keep it in check... doesn't mean they have to give "it" up (whatever "it" is-- that thing, that man thing)... but it does mean they know how to control it.

Whether or not he's guilty of this particular crime, it doesn't appear Ben is one of those guys who can control it.

The whole notion that man has an animal instinct that has to be controlled is "man PR" put out there to justify antisocial behavior.
You either want to be exclusive or you don't.
Guys who try to have it both ways, like a certain golfer, tend to view women as less than equal.

Too conpiratorial. Did the league protect Dallas when Irvin and the rest were having problems in the 90s?

Because of the saying, "nice guys finish last."

Inky, Irvin should have gotten more than a four-game suspension. His wrongs were not the same as someone like Lawrence Taylor or Chuck Muncie. He didn't just flunk a drug test, the guy was indicted.

Hell, she even knows it is a reach, which is why she keeps harping on the fact that Goodell hasn't met with Roethlisberger yet. But does she even know how quickly Goodell met with Jones or Vick for comparison? If she does, it isn't in the column.

She has to know that the comparison to Pacman Jones is a joke. And with Vick, there was a hell of a lot less doubt that he was guilty and a hell of a lot stronger public reaction. If anything, THAT is the big difference - perception.

Is she right that Goodell should have already met with Roethlisberger and torn into him? Yes. But the rest of what she wrote? Weak column with comparisons that just don't hold up.

It's a ridiculous column. How is this a race issue?

He can't realistically do anything with Roethlisberger until the case against him is made (if it is). There's a chance there won't be any charges at all. There's a chance he's in big trouble.

If he's charged with sexual assault, that should make the NFL's penalty much more severe than it would be if he's just an idiot who's out at 2 in the morning trying to pick up drunken college girls.

In fairness, a lot of men need the same attitude adjustment.

I disagree. She's looking at the double standard, how Jones and Vick were handed suspensions BEFORE their legal affairs were settled.
