  1. The problem I have is this:

If the NFL suspends him for the accusation, then it has to suspend him for a year or more. Because then you are essentially suspending him for rape, and two games or some slap on the wrist is insulting.

If you are suspending him for being a drunk moron who can't stay out of Deadspin or Google Images, then one or two games will do. But it can't be because the woman accused him of rape.

    You are correct.

I'm not crazy about sliding scales.

Horseshit. You made a horrible comparison. Suspending players for failing a drug test is an entirely different situation, primarily because there is indisputable evidence in those cases. Also, specific league policies were violated.

The evidence is not as clear against Roethlisberger and the league would be setting a new precedent in dealing with this situation.

But you and others just keep on trying to paint it as a fanboy thing rather than dealing with the issue of a league punishing an athlete based on accusations. The truth is, those screaming for Roethlisberger's head are every bit as guilty of posting based on emotion rather than reason as any Steelers fan on this thread.

That is a good point. Hard to understand sexual assualt only being two games.

You've got to be shitting me - you want guys suspended for cheating on their wives?

So I suppose you think Tom Brady should be suspended for knocking up a woman out of wedlock? And for that matter, any of these players who knock up their girlfriends - suspend them!!!

Give me a fucking break, that is asinine and you know it.

This isn't a seminary being run here, hell it isn't even a standard we hold elected officials to. If you start suspending guys because you think they are immoral you won't have a league.

And if you do that you have to suspend Kyle Orton.

Excellent point. One I have tried to make numerous times, but I did not make it as clearly as you just did.

And I think way too many people are basing their arguments on this being the second accusation. You all need to read the stories about that one. Try being objective and honest with yourself and tell us if you really buy a word of it.

I see, so what you are saying is if you are a back-up defensive back you can whip your dick out in a bar and have sex with a 20 year old in the bathroom - but if you are a starting quarterback you can't?

What if you are the 8th best tight end? The sixth best running back? What if you are a starting linebacker?

At what point does the "higher standard" exemption apply to a player?

That's ridiculous and you know it - you can't have different sets of rules for different players.

Key word in all of this, of course, being accusation -- as none of this has stuck to him or been proven or even led to charges.

There were photos of him with undergrads. No allegations of assault. Leinart should have been warned and reprimanded. Same with Orton. Just a warning that says, "You play the most high-profile position in our game. Please be smart."

What did Brady do? Impregnate a women he was in a longterm relationship with? The horror!

Not what I said at all.

Based on recent NFL precedent, I would support a suspension for a high-profile player who kept a veritable harem of ladies, hurting his image enough that endorsements walked away in droves, and thus hurt the league's image because his profile was so high and he was running with porn stars.

If he were brought to trial, sure. But a year or more is way too much. Six games seems right to me.

While he might not be charged with rape -- and the NFL seems willing to give him the benefit of the doubt based on the DA's decision this week -- it's clear that he's made some questionable decisions away from the field. As Goodell said in a memo to the league last week, simply avoiding criminal charges is not enough to avoid suspension via the personal conduct policy. This isn't some one-time deal for Roethlisberger, who's been in the news for this before.

Keep making negative headlines and NFL will have to take action.

So now having too many girlfriends is a suspendable offense on the level of the criminal activities that Pac Man Jones and Chris Henry were involved in?

Again, that is idiotic, you cannot legislate morality, even a little bit.
