The NFL has never had a case quite like this one, in part because the policy is new. Goodell is going to be setting a precedent here, and he better be ready for it to get very ugly down the line if he is going to start handing out major suspensions based on accusations.

The Pacman Jones comparison that some are making is a terrible one. He had a much longer history of trouble and he was actually charged with a crime.

This is different. It is heading in the direction of the league legislating morality.

    Fuck No, it's not.

I don't give a shit if she stripped herself and was spread eagle on the floor. If she said no then that ends it and consent is not given.

I know that in the real world women can't do things like go back to a dorm room in a drunken stupor with some frat guy because you know how things could end up.

But as soon as consent is not given then it stops. Men are not dogs who can't control it.

What she was wearing is completely irrelevent to this.

  3. I think Zag means "enough" in the event there is no explicit "no," not "no" plus clothing removal. "No" plus anything is "no," but there has to be room for non-verbal consent.

Goddell could also go the Ray Lewis route and fine the shit out of BR. I don't think Lewis was suspended as a result of the double homicide he was involved in.

Again, the impotent Paul Tagliabue was commissioner then. Goodell would have suspended Lewis, justifiably so.

    I realize that.

If Roethlisberger doesn't change his ways, he will match Pacman Jones' history of trouble.

The NFL isn't legislating morality; it's legislating what's good and bad for business. What Roethlisberger did, whatever it was that night, is bad for business. Just ask the Rooneys and the Steelers' front office. And if suspensions without pay can discourage players from repeating bad behavior, that's what the NFL is going to do.

And take back that Roethlisberger jersey hanging in the closet, which is OK -- I always wear the Polumalu anyway.

I get that there is such thing as non verbal consent. I also get that in the real world a person should not put themselves in stupid situations.

If she said no then removing her panties is irrlevent, as is whether or not she had a DTF button.

Anything between 4-6 games will be done. Obviously the Steelers organization thinks some of it is true or they'd be a little more defensive of their franchise player. Instead they've pretty much left him out to dry. So we'll say conservatively four games, a substantial fine for him from the team and the team from the league -- both six figures. That's about 2+ million in lost wages for Big Ben. Hope it was worth it.

And given the relationship the Steelers have with their community I'm sure they are conferring with their female fan base/season ticket holders, probably some local woman's rights groups, etc. They are about to take any more of a PR hit then they already have for this clown.

I'm not going to go as far as saying he raped her, but I'm sure there is a perfectly good case for false imprisonment and a completely justifiable case for being a fucking moron who needs to be saved from the decisions his stupid ass will make in the future.

  12. I don't think Zag would disagree with you.
