If they went on 4th & 2 and had 1st & goal from the 1, how would they ever kick a FG?

I think Cowboys go four downs there, unless something ridiculous happens -- like a holding penalty followed by a sack or two that has them 4th-and-goal from way the hell off. Again, it's probabilities and tendencies, but Garrett had to that point shown no hesitation in going for it.

I don't know. Why not cut it to 2 points and use timeouts and the 2-minute warning?

You make it so much easier if you *do* get the ball back. Either way, you have to score.

That's a great argument for 4th & 2, but he decided to go for the bomb instead. Once you've made it to the 1, it's an easy call.

Packers had scored touchdowns on 3 of 8 possessions before the catch/non-catch.

Spectacular offense or no, it is almost never "likely" Team A will score a touchdown on any particular drive. Green Bay and Dallas ranked 1-2 in drives that ended in touchdowns this year, but each was barely 31 percent.

And two of those touchdowns had come on the possessions immediately preceding the non-catch. Which is neither here nor there, because no matter what Dallas did, to win the game (or at least have a chance to win the game), Green Bay was going to need only a field goal.

So let me get this straight: According to some here, several days and thread pages spent debating the defining play in a playoff game is the worst thing ever, but several days and thread pages spent debating WHAT IF????? is a completely worthwhile exercise?

    Close.

    If-Then.

As to your capitalized aghast ... I think the second part of your post is more worthwhile (read: to discuss) than was it/wasn't it?

    I hope it's a Colts-Packers Super Bowl.

I'd rather see the two best younger QBs duel it out than see Brady play in his sixth SB.

Although, I think Seahawks-Patriots would be a hell of a game.
