Actually, mano a mano is the commonly used phrase (edit -- yup, just looked it up in my gigantic American Heritage dictionary), and it can certainly be used figuratively for a one-on-one battle, such as a mano a mano matchup between a wide receiver and a cornerback. In this case, however, the reference was not to a battle but a conversation, indeed one that was intended to clear the air between two players and lead to them burying the hatchet. Therefore, mano a mano does not apply here, IMHO.

    Joe would you accept this:

Strahan and Burress were in flagrante delicto discussing Strahan comments made on WFAN.

thanks for coming to my defense. wish it wasn't made necessary by the aptly-named "hypocrite," but it's much appreciated.

shockey--i'm sorry my response to your post ignited this. Not my intention. If you had called someone 'espn boy' i would have liked it. ;)

That said, while I completely agree with your assessment of espn, I think it's a slippery slope to separate an 'agenda' from the pursuit of a story...they can be one and the same, and still be good reporting, no?

Shockey, my ms friend, is this the first time you're being picked on here? Join the club. But shrug it off. You know those who know you love and respect you.

    Carry on.

    thanks, casty.

the answer is i'm used to the silly attacks by the aptly-named hypocrite. opposing points made by folks like the well-respected '21' are always welcomed. they're argued intelligently and don't resort to laughable character assassinations.

it's always good to have those who know me rally to my defense. it helps my street cred with other posters, i.e. anyone other than hypocrite.

aside to '21' -- if it had been an espn male on assignment to stir the pot up on strahan, i would've happily referred to him as "espn boy." it just struck me as someone at espn assigning a reporter to this story with an agenda attached, and they got the intended result -- sound bites for all of their pot-stirring shows. hey, the ny post and daily news have similar agendas, to stir the pot, and also call it "chasing news." the line is often straddled and/or crossed. thanks to the pb-and-jelly man, espn got what it wanted. strahan's a dick but that doesn't mean i have to also think espn is totally blameless.

  11. Mike V: Since you write for the NY Post, you know all about vile, misinformed bullshit. So I grant you expert status.

Please, feel free to come on the board and vent righteously apoplectic after great guy Shockey, one of the worst backstabbers in our business, takes yet another shot at a journalist, as he does often. No one is being outed here. Shockey's real name is not being used, jackass. Just stating my opinion like is done on this board many times a day about many different people.

So I'll be waiting, big Mike. Next time Shockey unfairly kills a writer, come on and defend Shockey as the great guy he is.

'Cause he really is terrific. I love him dearly.

    And you too buddy.

    Take care lover.
