It's working to perfection for Big Blue in time for Sunday's game vs. Dallas. Tiki lawyered up, Strahan eating his hot dogs in private, Plax is still on the fans' shit list, Pierce and Jacobs is banging the drums...

Back to normal in Gotham. ::)

A question a bit off the topic.

So why would an NFL training table be serving hot dogs to the players?

Another question - It seems like the NY papers are always running pictures of football players in the locker room. I'm not sure I've seen this in any other town ... Does it happen anywhere else?

I think you are overanalyzing this. Strahan has a tendency to speak out of turn. Apparently he did that on Joe Beningo's show. He probably didn't think anything of it at the time. He wasn't trying to take a stab at the back pages, though. No way.

Yesterday, he comes in and realizes there is someone asking questions. Now he's like an animal being backed into the corner. And he tries to diffuse the situation by being a bully. He doesn't want his teammates thinking he stabbed a teammate in the back, so he comes out fighting--even if he did such a shit job at diffusing things that he made it worse.

Someone else said it earler, and it's right. This isn't a Tiki vs. Strahan thing, even if there is a little of that on this team. It's Strahan being Strahan. He can be the most charming, agreeable guy you will ever meet. But back him into a corner and there is no bigger asshole alive. He can be an NFL-sized dick.

By greasing his palms with some $$$ for an exclusive interview?

Oh c'mon we've all heard those tales.

OK, one more time. It's defuse, not diffuse.

    And another pet peeve:

Mano a mano (it's Latin) means hand-to-hand, not man-to-man. So you wouldn't look someone in the eye and tell him something mano a mano, unless you're speaking in sign language.

OK, I've been enough of an asshole for one day. Please resume your regularly scheduled discussion as I brace for the soon-to-be-lobbed grenade from Blondebomber.

THEY MEANT DIFFUSE!! As in, not wanting the story to be focused directly on the Burress mess, Strahan deflected the attention onto other subjects, thus diffusing it in a variety of other directions.

He made no attempt whatsoever to defuse it.

He did defuse the hot dog - which some say is a cardiac time bomb.

Actually, he diffused the hot dog, spraying it all over the room like a sprinkler head on the front lawn.

    Main Entry: 2dif·fuse
    Pronunciation: di-'fyüz
    Function: verb
    Inflected Form(s): dif·fused; dif·fus·ing
Etymology: Middle English diffused, past participle, from Latin diffusus, past participle
    transitive verb
1 a : to pour out and permit or cause to spread freely b : EXTEND, SCATTER c : to spread thinly or wastefully
2 : to subject to diffusion; especially : to break up and distribute (incident light) by reflection
    intransitive verb
1 : to spread out or become transmitted especially by contact
    2 : to undergo diffusion

Not sure any of those definitions apply here. I'd still say defuse -- attempting to render the situation less hazardous to the Giants' chemistry/psyche -- is much more appropriate.

I will now refrain from further editing of this thread because it's just a bunch of message board posts. It just caught my attention because that's one of those things I run into often while editing.

    Thank you, one and all.

I think either of these could apply to both the ranting and the hot dog.

Safe to say, however, we will all think twice before using either word again. ;)

Joe - please continue your edits- seriously - good stuff and not offensive at all. Its a rather nice break in middle of the strahan debate.
