The Green Mile. Michael Clarke Duncan was practically his co-star.

Denzel would have been too young to be in Cape Fear in the Nolte role. He could have been in The Departed, Men of Honor. One thing seems clear though in Washington's filmography - he does go out of his way to get lesser-known directors jobs and is very loyal to those he's had previous success with. (Lee, Fuqua, Ed Zwick). Still, odd that he's never done anything with Spielberg, Scorsese, Howard, Eastwood or the Coens.

Where would he have fit in The Departed? Anthony Anderson was a young cop and there were no significant black gangsters that I can think of involved with Whitey. Martin Sheen's or Alec Baldwin's role? They were Irish.

Was that the Simmons podcast? How was it? I have less than a 50% hit rate with Simmons.

Wilson in Castaway had some color to him.

I think Denzel could have done the Baldwin role. Granted, it wasn't much of a role. I almost think the thing about Washington is that his presence would overshadow pretty much anyone else in a movie.

    and Philadelphia ....

You could probably make that argument about Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and just about most big white stars who never did a buddy cop movie.

Yes but haven’t finished it. It’s interesting. Funny how sometimes Simmons pushes things and guest gets a little uncomfortable (like this) but Simmons knows to back off.

Cruise did Collateral, Jerry McGuire and the Last Samurai. Pitt did 12 years a slave and 7 years in Tibet
