STUNNER: Pluto leaving ABJ for PD

20, I've only been here for a little over a year and am not up to speed on some of the things from years before, so could you fill me in on who was suing the PD and what their line was?

I ask because in 1995 I applied at the PD and never got anything other than a form-letter rejection when I had 16 years in the business and 8 on a major beat (the professional league beat they were looking to fill). I thought about a suit myself considering they went nearly a year before they found a woman to take the job.

old_tony: That was a gentleman named Marty Gitlin who sued the PD.

Marty still posts here. Someone should send him a PM to let him know about what's going on.

Thanks. Do you know what year it was, roughly?

And, sorry if I missed it, but what ever happened in his suit? Any outcome? Settlement? "Tough luck Mr. Man!"?

That the ABJ let Pluto go tells you something.

He also had/has a cereal blog out there. I can't find a stable link to it at the moment.

Thanks for the links. I wish I would have known about his suit at the time. I could have offered some information and support for his case.

Marty's a good guy with loads of talent. Crazy sense of humor, too!

Back on topic. This isn't over. The ABJ is still reeling, but they're at least talking of replacing rather than just moving others up the food chain as was originally thought.
Three have already interviewed, and a metro name columnist is available for the right price, which isn't what he's getting at his home shop.
Not clear if management here really knows what it wants, but at least they're talking about doing something, rather than simply absorbing the body blow they've been dealt.

ABJ has an idea of what it wants. I know one candidate they're serious about, and it's not the metro columnist you're thinking of. Might end up surprising some people, but in fairness to all parties/employers involved, I'm not naming names until something is official, which won't happen for quite a few weeks yet. At least not for another month or so.
