Because he sucks. As soon as the Bears tried to throw the ball more than five yards downfield, the interceptions followed.

Had he missed, of course you take it. But given that the Bears offense had scored only one touchdown, making it 22-14 seemed like the smart play at the time. They weren't exactly playing Joe Montana here, and the defense was playing well again. Don't take points off the board, make the Bears score a touchdown and a two-point try just to tie.

It was indeed a wet fart of a Super Bowl. But I actually didn't mind seeing it rain...a little "football weather," of a sort anyway, was a nice touch.

  4. Grossman.
    No contest.
I'd have gone to Griese at halftime.

With that offensive line doing the blocking, would it have made a difference?

The fingers in the dirt guys let the Bears down. Either side of ball - O and D lines were pretty much non existant and not physical. I do not recall hearing Tank Johnson's # called all day.

Grossman tossed that interception but overall he was not as bad as everyone is making him out to be.

Two picks, one returned for a touchdown. Two fumbled snaps, one lost. Turned a second-and-1 at the Colts 45 during the third quarter into a fourth-and-23 after back-to-back 11-yard sacks -- tripped over his own legs the first time, had trouble controlling the snap the second time.

Aside from that, sure, he was not as bad as everyone is making him out to be.

Grossman had a poor game. But he'd have had to have had Steve Young's Super Bowl to make up for the inability of the Bears to stop the run.

Don't feel too bad for Rex Grossman. He might not be the cover boy for Madden 08, but he'll be in a video game all the same.

Exactly - Colts got off 81 plays and the Bears only ran 48. Bears were so concerned with slot receiver it left them unable to stop runs to weakside.

If D stopped Colts, Grossman did enough for them to win. They seemed to be able to run the ball but they only had 19 attempts.

They were no monsters of the midway. George Halas was spinning in his grave

M-G is right. Grossman will take the brunt of criticism because it's an easy story, and piling on always feeds a columnist's ego. But when your defense is the strength of your team and you get pushed around all night, you don't deserve to win. If someone other than Dungy, someone not afraid to put his foot on someone's throat when they're down is on the Colts' sideline, the score would have been much more lopsided.
