Super Bowl XLII headlines

Discussion in 'Journalism topics only' started by Left_Coast, Feb 3, 2008.

  1. We had ... wait for it ... A Giant upset on 1A.

For sports we had: Pefect finished with the picture of Seau face down. I think it turned out pretty well.

Perfect is perfect. Somebody was perfect. That's not that tough.

I mean, a lot of us read that and the first thought is, "Well, the Miami Dolphins were perfect."

  4. Had the same discussion at my shop when someone suggested it. I thought it was odd that more than one person thought we should go with it.

    That was ours as well.

well yeah, Nadia Comenici was perfect too, but c'mon, it's a headline over the 2008 Super Bowl game story

a little anal retentive if you ask me

  7. Anal retentive? Really?

For the last two months, all we've heard is the Pats trying to become the second team with a perfect season.

So, saying "Nobody's perfect" is incorrect is being anal retentive?

    Yes, it is.
It is a clever headline, but the copy-editor strikes again.

You think a throw-away term like "Nobody's perfect" is a "clever" headline?

God, I'm glad you're NOT a copy editor (it's not hyphenated. Thank your deskers next time you talk to them).

  10. Meee-Freaking-YOW!

  11. Let me make sure I understand.

    Clever headline=good

    Accurate headline=anal retentive

    That sum it up?

This could make things much easier. I've had plenty of clever headlines I didn't use because they weren't accurate.

But they can't REALLY be clever, foaf. They just have to be an inaccurate, commonly used phrase that doesn't fit at all.

    THEN it apparently works.
