18 and 1, with the Lombardi trophy as the 1

And if I could come up with an 18 and Life headline, by fucking God, I'd do it.

I was going to suggest that, but thought it might be too cliche...But, my inner geek loves it.

    A perfect...upset

I think you focus on the Giants win unless you're working a desk in the Patriots' region.

The Giants won that game. If the Patriots had clearly given it away, it could be argued. But they didn't. When the Pats beat the Rams a few years back, did everyone outside St. Louis dwell on the Rams tossing the game away? If so, they shouldn't have.

  6. Our 1A hed is

    GIANT UPSET LEAVES
    PATS IMPERFECT

They go for longish heds here.

Normally, you'd be right. But, the attempt at a perfect season makes the Patriots loss the story here. To me, the balance is writing something that speaks to the upset, rather than the loss. That way you are spinning it positively towards NY, but still acknowledging that everyone will be talking about the Pats losing, not the Giants winning.

    Agree SM, agree...

  9. This isn't a terrible argument, but the comparison to the Rams is. The Patriots were what, two minutes away from a perfect season? They were 13 point favorites against a team they had beaten on the road. Their loss is a much bigger story than the Rams' loss.

    How about:

    A perfect upset

Oh, and for a cheesy MVP sidebar headline:

    He's the Manning (I know, I know, it's awful)

If I was in NY, I might go with 18-1 with the Lombardi - I love that

    Or I might go with

    No waY
With the Giants logo for N and Y

    The Boston Globe's website reads:
